Science
Lower School teachers encourage children to develop an attitude of respect for nature and the environment. Children record, place in order, categorize, generalize, discuss, and make predictions based on their observations of the natural environment and materials. They also explore transformation, cause and effect relationships, and the relationship between form and function.
Teachers use many vehicles to support these explorations. The youngest students explore natural materials which include sand, clay, and water then leading to a basic understanding of their properties. They investigate the foundations of chemistry, physics, biology, and the earth through the study of weather, animals, plants, and the human body. Technology is used throughout the scientific process from investigation to recording data.
